Star Gazing

A Night Under the Stars at Brown Dog Cabin

One of the most talked about parts of staying at Brown Dog Cabin has nothing to do with the cabin itself. It’s what happens outside after dark.

With no cell service, no streetlights, and no close neighbors, the Elk River Valley has almost no light pollution. On a clear night, the Milky Way stretches from one horizon to the other, and it’s easy to see far more stars than most guests are used to.

Summer and fall tend to offer the clearest, most reliable skies, though winter nights can be just as striking when the weather cooperates, with snow on the ground reflecting what little ambient light there is. Step out onto the deck, let your eyes adjust for a few minutes, and the sky does the rest.

It’s the kind of thing that’s hard to plan around a specific activity list, but almost every guest ends up out there at some point during their stay, often longer than they expected.

Ready to Unplug?

Leave the noise behind. The cabin is waiting — and so is the mountain air.
